-
Mani Ram took Amrit on the day the Khalsa was born. In 1699, Guru Gobind Singh Ji himself gave Amrit to Mani Ram. Bhai Mani Singh Ji’s 5 sons also took Amrit.
-
Bhai Mani Singh Ji then stayed with Guru Gobind Singh Ji at Anandpur Sahib. In December 1705, Bhai Mani Singh Ji kept Mata Sundari Ji and Mata Sahib Kaur safe when the family was separated.

Shaheedi of Bhai Mani Singh Ji
-
In 1937, the Sikhs were unable to gather together for festivals such as Vaisakhi and Bandi Chhor Diwas due to the Mughal Government. At that time, the Governor of Punjab was Zakhria Khan.
-
To bring all the Sangat together Bhai Mani Singh Ji asked Zakhria Khan if the Sikhs could celebrate Bandi Chhor Diwas at Sri Harmandir Sahib. Zakhria Khan said yes but wanted 5000 rupees in return.
-
A few days before Bandi Chhor Diwas, Bhai Mani Singh Ji found out that the Mughals were going to kill all the Sikh men as they gathered at Sri Harmandir Sahib. Bhai Mani Singh Ji told the Sangat not to come.
-
Very few people came to Sri Harmandir Sahib so no money was collected to pay the 5000 rupee tax. Bhai Mani Singh Ji was arrested and brought to Zakhria Khan for not paying the tax.
-
Zakhria Khan said to Bhai Sahib “If you convert to Islam, I will free you and give you everything including wives, land, big houses and money”. Bhai Sahib said “Nothing is greater than my religion. Guru Nanak Dev Ji came to this earth and planted the flower of Sikhi that not even a storm can destroy!”.
-
Zakhria Khan was angry at Bhai Mani Singh Ji and ordered one of his men “Cut him limb by limb. Use your blade to cut him at every joint of his body”. Bhai Mani Singh Ji accepted this and was ready to be cut up into pieces.
-
The executioner placed Bhai Sahib’s hand on a piece of wood and was going to cut his wrist but Bhai Sahib stopped the man. Zakhria Khan smiled and said “Did you get scared Mani Singh?”.
-
Bhai Mani Singh Ji looked at the executioner and shouted “What were your orders? You were ordered to cut me piece by piece. You have left all my fingers. Zakhriya Khan, ensure your servant doesn’t disrespect your orders”. Zakhria Khan was shocked and embarrassed.
-
The executioner began chopping off Bhai Mani Singh Ji’s limbs. He chopped off Bhai Sahib’s fingers, toes, hands, arms, legs and finally his head. Bhai Mani Singh Ji continued to recite “Satnam Vaheguru” as he became Shaheed.
Note: We remember Bhai Mani Singh Ji every day during the Ardaas when we say “Band Band Kataye”. We remember Bhai Taru Singh Ji in Ardaas as well when we say “Khopria Luhaiya”.
